Steps in the right direction: CasualCarper

Bait firms are popping up everywhere these days. From small, homegrown companies, to the larger more widely recognised ones, you’ve really got no end of options! In order to stand out from the rest you’ve got to be able to offer one of two things. Quality affordable bait, or something completely new to the market…or preferably, both!

One company which is going from strength to strength, for all the right reasons, is CasualCarper. Now before I go any further I’d best make it clear that I’m no field tester, sponsored angler, consultant or receiving any kind of financial reward for saying any of this, so believe I’m going to be honest with the next few sentences.

For starters, their bait is as reasonably priced as any and the range has been kept nice and simple, which is a bit of a relief. ‘White Chocolate and Orange’ or ‘Spiced Krill’ are the flavours, both of which come in a variety of sizes with matching pop-ups and glugs as you’d expect. On top of this, both have already accounted for plenty of fish to over 30lb!

Having used both baits myself, the Spiced Krill in 12mm and the White Chocolate and Orange in 15mm, I can hand on heart say they both stink to high heaven! Especially when coated in the matching glug! The Krill was much softer than my usual choice of boilie which made it quite difficult to use with a throwing stick, but that’s almost to be expected with the 12mm size. After passing on a bit of feedback about this though, I’ve since been told that they have been tweaked and made much firmer, which is fantastic news!

Pastel wafters, Black Beetles (a personal favourite) and Fluro Popups complete the range to give you nearly everything you should ever need! Matching pellets would be a nice addition too but it’s not like we’re short of those is it? To browse the whole range you can visit their website at www.casualcarper.com

That was for starters…now for the bit which really does make this company stand out!

You’ll forgive me for sounding like some eco-fixated-tree-hugging-nut-job here but the amount of wasted plastic packaging that the bait industry, in fact, that the angling industry uses is almost insane. Given that it’s one of the biggest issues being tackled today, albeit pretty unsuccessfully, you’d have thought that there would be alternatives in the pipeline somewhere. Well, now there are.

Actually, no they’re not. CasualCarper has taken them well beyond the pipeline stages and has put them into full effect already. Having done away with plastic bags for kilos upon kilos of boilies, replacing them with durable yet biodegradable alternatives, they’ve set an example of what can actually be done when you put a bit of thought into it.

On top of this, you can now order refills for hookbait tubs which come supplied with stickers detailing what they are. You simply place the sticker on the pot you’ve refilled and the job’s done. This means that if you’re anything like me and have upwards of 20 tubs lying around, you won’t have to be adding to the meaningless collection when they’re empty and you find yourself in need of some more. I know the majority of us will find some other use for them, glug pots for example, or even tea bag tubs, but it’s just a nice option to have. It’s even nicer that it comes with a discounted price tag!

Both of the above changes have been met with nothing but support from the anglers already using CasualCarper and I fully expect that these kinds of decisions are going to gain them an even bigger following in the near future.
